Introduction to Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax or A.C.E.S.


A.C.E.S.

AUTOMATION OF CENTRAL EXCISE AND SERVICE TAX.

  1. Assessee [both new and existing] has to logon to www.aces.gov.in
  2. There are five menus in this website viz., [a] About us [b] What’s new [c] Download [d] Useful links [e] Help [f] Central Excise [g] Service Tax and [h] e-payment.
  3. The menu “About us” tells about C.B.E.C. mission statement about A.C.E.S. project.
  4. The menu “What’s new” describes newer developments relating to A.C.E.S. project.
  5. The menu “Download” gives e-filing offline utilities various excise returns and Service Tax return.  These utilities can be downloaded and offline entries can be made before uploading in to A.C.E.S. website.
  6. The menu “Useful links” flashes links to C.B.E.C. website and various other related websites of Finance Ministry.
  7. The next menu is an important one viz., “Help” which gives information about the following:
Service Desk @ACES In case of any difficulty in accessing or using the ACES Application, assessee can seek help of the ACES Service Desk by sending e-mail to aces.servicedesk@icegate.gov.in or calling up national toll-free number 1800 425 4251 on any working day from Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 7 PM.

            The above can be downloaded by assessee for any clarification and to learn more about A.C.E.S.  It gives a better understanding of A.C.E.S. project.

  1. The next menu “Central Excise” gives link to Central Excise logon page in A.C.E.S. project.
  2. The next menu “Service Tax” gives link to Service Tax logon page in A.C.E.S. project.
  3.  The final menu “e-payment” gives links to e-payment facilities of various authorized banks for payment Central Excise & Service Tax duties.


HOW ASSESSEE CAN USE THE A.C.E.S.

  1. NEW ASSESSEE [BOTH CENTRAL EXCISE & SERVICE TAX]:

A new assessee either Central Excise or Service Tax has to go to the respective logon page in the website www.aces.gov.in and click the link available below logon space showing New Users to Click here to Register with ACES.  This link will provide a new page and the particulars are to be filled up by the new assessee and submitted.  Here, the new assessee can choose his own username.  After filling and submitting the details in the website, the new assessee will receive a T-PIN [TEMPORARY PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER] through the e-mail address given while registering in the A.C.E.S. Website. 

With the username already filed in the A.C.E.S. website and T-PIN sent through mail, the new assessee has to logon to the A.C.E.S. website in the respective logon page and logon menu.  They will be immediately be asked to change the T-PIN password to their own chosen password.  After completion of the above formalities, the new assessee can choose the Registration menu for registering themselves under Central Excise or Service Tax. 

After successful registration, the new assessee has to submit the credentials relating to registration to the respective Offices for getting the Registration Certificate in hard copy.  Thereon, the assessee can use other menu available in the A.C.E.S. page after proper logon.

  1. EXISTING ASSESSEES:

The existing assessee would have already furnished the correct email address to the Department for A.C.E.S. purpose.  These email addresses will be updated in the existing S.A.C.E.R. / S.A.P.S. data as applicable.  These data will be migrated to A.C.E.S. before roll out in the respective Zones.  The system will generate email automatically informing the existing assessee their user identification and T-PIN for initial logon in A.C.E.S. They will be immediately be asked to change the T-PIN password to their own chosen password.  Then, the existing assessee can use various menus available in A.C.E.S. like claims and intimations, audit, adjudication [case portfolio], refund etc. 

Besides these, the A.C.E.S. logon page contains two other links viz., “know your location” and “know your location based on locality”.  These menus helps the assessee to ascertain their location code and jurisdictional Central Excise or Service Tax Office.  This inturn helps them to file their claims online with correct jurisdictional authorities.

Finally, there is another link available for retrieving / getting your password through email incase you forgot your password that you have changed / chosen while loggingon for the first time in A.C.E.S.

On successful launching, the assessees will come to know about the other menus available in the A.C.E.S.  Only the realtime exposure can give the first hand information in the usage of A.C.E.S. website.
